ATLANTA, GA (March 1, 2018)– Golf Women Mean Business, a company advancing the cause of women entrepreneurs and career professionals in golf, recently concluded a successful meeting where recommendations were made on matters related to the current state of diversity and inclusion in the sport.

Patrina King leads Golf Women Mean BusinessThe event took place on February 16, 2018 at the Golf Women Mean Business Corporate office in Atlanta, GA. Several stakeholders in the golf industry were in attendance including representatives from ClubCorp, American Junior Golf Association, Emory University, Laney Graduate School, Southern Company, Women in Golf Foundation, LPGA, Country Financial and the Presenting Sponsor –The PGA of America.

The lack of diversity in golf is one of the main issues that plague the sport. But organizations such as The PGA of America have spearheaded efforts to bring more diversity to the game.

Golf Women Mean Business-400_2891Founder and CEO of Golf Women Mean Business (GWMB), Patrina King, along with President of Progressive Techniques, Inc., Nancy Lewis, moderated the discussion which focused on the current state of diversity and inclusion within the sport. The discussion explored the unique experiences of minority business golfers and the importance of bringing community awareness to the sport. It also acknowledged that the strategies employed to achieve the overarching goals must be proactive and forward-thinking.

A springboard for implementing ideas

Golf Women Mean Business is a membership-based organization that uses golf as a tool for establishing strategic partnerships and career building. Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, Patrina King said: “We had honest conversations about the unique challenges experienced in the sport with individuals who were ready and willing to influence needed change. There were a lot of a-ha moments and this meeting served as a springboard for implementing some of the ideas discussed.”

The conclusion of the roundtable reflected marked progress towards the event’s overall goals and exciting opportunities for improving relationships with community shareholders. There was resounding agreement that more needed to be done to educate and inspire the youth to explore the sport. In an effort to support the agenda of inclusion and diversity, attendees were tasked with asking at least one, non-traditional golfer, to join them at the golf course during their next round.
