Toney started playing golf at age 11 at Bing Maloney Golf Course (Sacramento) and entered his first tournament, The Sacramento City Junior Championship in 1978, scoring 94 to become runner-up, 11th Flight. By age 15, he was at even par- carded 7 birdies, 7 bogeys, and 4 pars for 71. His first tournament win was in 1983 during the Junior Golf Association of Northern California Golf Championship at Lew Galbraithe Golf Course in Oakland.
In 1983 he won the Western States Golf Association Junior Golf Championship was most valuable player at Luther Burbank High School (Sacramento) during 1983 and 1984.
Toney qualified for a golf scholarship and entered Prairie View A&M University in 1984. He became South Western Athletic Conference Champion 1986 and a prized member of the NAIA Conference All District Team during 1986 and 1987. Toney competed on the Ben Hogan, Golden State Tour and California Golf Tours from 1989-1993 and worked as a PGA Assistant Golf Professional in 1995.
Toney is known for his refined skills and strong dedication to helping people improve there golf games. His work experience Mather Golf Course (Mather, CA), Stevinson Ranch Golf Course (Stevinson, CA) and the Diablo Grande Golf Resort (Patterson, CA).
Toney became Head Golf Professional after being elected to Membership in the PGA of America in 2001. He served as PGA Director of Golf at Metropolitan Golf Links in 2003 and joined The Olympic Club staff in February 2005 and in January 2008 was appointed to his current position as a PGA Assistant Head Golf Professional. Toney resides in Dublin, California with his wife Kristin and children Jorell, Reece, Makenna and Grace. |
