Wendell Haskins, Former Def Jam Executive, Tapped to Head PGA of America Diversity Effort

Wendell Haskins, new PGA of America Senior Director of Diversity and Multi-Cultural Initiatives.

(January 2, 2014) In his new role, Haskins wrote us to say,“There is more opportunity for me with the marketing position and it better enables me to do what I like to do, and do best, with more support internally.”

Haskins, 47, a Hampton (Va.) University graduate has created and managed high-impact, charitable events, such as the Original Tee Golf Classic and the Soul Train Invitational benefiting the Don Cornelius Foundation. Presented the 2009 Outstanding Leader in Golf Award winner by the African American Golfer’s Digest, he is a dynamic executive and entrepreneur within golf and entertainment. Haskins fostered charitable and diversity-minded events that have honored pioneers and icons in sports through high-profile golf outings including PGA Professionals Charlie Sifford and Renee Powell, and basketball stars Julius “Dr. J.” Erving, Alonzo Mourning, George Gervin and Sam Jones.



 

His annual Original Tee event has benefited Golf to End Cancer, the Bill Dickey Scholarship Association and The Clearview Legacy Foundation, charitable events with former New York Giants linebacker Carl Banks, former NBA player Rod Strickland, and The National Black MBA Association.
