Tiger Woods Registered For U.S. Open… Is He PGA Tour Ready?

by Debert Cook

Tiger woods us openMillions of avid fans have been wondering just when Tiger Woods would return to championship golf. Although the sidelined player has not yet revealed the day and time of his return, it has been learned that he has done what is required to play in the U.S. Open; And that is to register.

The three-time U.S. Open champion, now age 40, and recuperating from numerous back surgeries, is notably exempt into the national championship (this is because of his 2008 victory at Torrey Pines). However, in order for the former #1 golfer to participate in the 116th edition, scheduled for June 16-19 at Oakmont County Club, Woods actively needed to register by 5 p.m. Wednesday. Just beating the clock by several hours, Woods registered at 4:33 p.m. April 4, according to the U.S. Golf Association.
Since having a second microdiscentomy surgery last September, followed by an additional procedure in October, Woods has been out of professional golf. He has missed the game, and the game has definitely missed him. Live golf television viewership is suffering as a result while old YouTube videos of Woods in his highlight days have seen a rise.

Still working on getting his body together, Woods did make a recent appearance at a junior tournament, where he pounded drives in a session at the practice range. By all appearances, it seems that he is quite likely to make a return to professional golf.

DON’T GET TOO EXCITED YET
But fans should not get too excited just yet. Registration simply means that Woods can play in the U.S. Open. But it does not mean that he will play. Because of his victory at the 2008 Open at Torrey Pines, the former great receives an exemption into the event until 2019. Is Woods PGA Tour ready? We’re all waiting to see.
