THE GOLF CHANNEL PRODUCES SPECIAL
VIDEO TRIBUTE
HONORING MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
AT AAGD DIVERSITY PAVILION
New York, NY, (January 2008)--A special video tribute was
produced onsite at the African American Golfer's Digest
by The Golf Channel to honor Black History Month and the
vision and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The three-minute video was shot with interviews conducted
at the Diversity Pavilion of the African American Golfer’s
Digest and several notable professionals and entrepreneurs
participated to share their experiences and memories of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. including, Debert Cook, publisher,
African American Golfer’s Digest; Selena Johnson,
CEO/founder, Hollywood Golf Institute, Edward Wanambwa,
senior editor, African American Golfer’s Digest, LaJean
Gould, founder, Women In Golf Founder, Alfonzo Dowe Sr.,
inventor, “The Twister” golf ball cleaner; Otis
Windham, program coordinator, Tee-Lo Golf; Mikell Johnson,
Author, The African American Woman Golfer; Alfred Quarles,
president, Bogey Boyz Golf.
“Celebrating diversity and the acknowledgement of
Black History Month is an optimum opportunity for The Golf
Channel,” said publisher, Debert Cook who organizes
the annual trade show exhibit for the magazine that has
been onsite with the PGA Show since 2004.
Today, even though there are more African Americans playing
and showing an interest in the game, there are still no
black women on the LPGA Tour,” says Cook. Efforts
by The First Tee, the PGA of America and other sports and
community organizations are hoping to change this. But,
until then, the African American Golfer’s Digest has
arranged for merchants, inventors, players and others to
be a part of their Diversity Pavilion efforts at the Orlando,
Florida exhibition that attracts more than 45,000 attendees
annually.
