PGA GOLF LEGEND CALVIN PEETE
TO APPEAR AT THE AFRICAN AMERICAN GOLFER’S DIGEST
2007 “DIVERSITY PAVILION”
BLACK GOLF MAGAZINE CONTINUES
TO EXPAND MINORITY MERCHANT PARTICIPATION AT
THE NATIONS MOST COMPREHENSIVE GOLF SHOW

NEW YORK, NY (November 2006)—Visitors to the PGA Merchandise
Show & Convention that is being held January 25-27,
2007 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando,
Florida, will have a unique opportunity to the meet legendary
PGA golfer, Calvin Peete who is scheduled to appear on Saturday,
January 27 from 12:00 noon-4:00 p.m. to sign autographs,
take photos with guests, talk about old times and his recent
activities at booth #5290 , site of the African American
Golfer’s Digest “Diversity Pavilion.”
Peete was only the second African American to play on the
United States Ryder Cup team where he appeared twice between
1983 and 1985. He also won 11 times on the PGA Tour in addition
to his Ryder Cup appearances (1979 to 1986 ). During 1982
he won four times, and was the first black to do so. His
greatest win was at the Tournament Players Championship
in 1985.
The African American Golfer’s Digest, is the nations
leading publication for avid black golfers. The four-year-old,
glossy, lifestyle publication features editorial, golf tips,
travel guides and profiles on the latest news, information
and activities in the “soulful” world of golf.
The national, quarterly this been a participant with the
PGA Merchandiser Show sine 2004 and this year it has expanded
its presence with 500 sq. ft. of exhibit space (in the products
and services section of the Show).
Visitors to the “Pavilion” will also have a
chance to meet-and-greet a variety of African American golf
industry professionals, minority golf business owners, and
organizational leaders and founders as they witness first-hand
the explosive growth of this market segment into the sport,
many which have development to penetrate the golf trade
marketplace just during the past decade.
“The mission of the Diversity Pavilion is to showcase
and accommodate the growing participation of companies who
are either minority-owned, minority-operated, or specialize
in reaching the minority golf marketplace,” says Publisher,
Debert Cook. During the three-day Show, the Diversity Pavilion
will host clothiers, trainers, PGA Professionals, authors,
equipment providers, inventors, and others who will be onsite
to exhibit, display, sell and promote their specialities.

In addition, The exciting documentary film, “The Last
Colored Caddy,” produced by Senior Editor, Edward
Wanambwa will be scheduled for show times every 90-minutes
for free public viewing and details the untold story of
golf’s forgotten heroes.

film examines the impact and legacy of and challenges faced
by African American golf caddies. The film has received
rave reviews and has also been shown at Martha's Vineyard
African American Film Festival, the 2006 Urban Film Series,
and the 2006 Independent Black Film Festival.

AAGD Press Conference
Merchants who participate with the “Diversity Pavilion”
receive a number of year-round marketing and advertising
benefits through the African American Golfer’s Digest
including travel and lodging discounts, sales lead generation,
and an opportunity to participate in the onsite press conference.
This year, the press conference will be held on Friday,
January 26 from 11:00 a.m.-11:30 am, in room 312A. The topic
will focus on “Golf: Linking Cultures & Dollars.”
The conference will again be lead by Malachi Knowles, Chairman
of the Editorial Advisory Board and founder of the African
American Golfer’s Hall of Fame.

Notable individuals can almost always be found mingling
at the African American Golfer’s Digest booth, as
it has become a place for social networking and connecting
during the Show. In 2006, special guests who visited the
booth included, Lee Elder (Senior Tour), Renee Powell (PGA/LPGA),
Julius Richardson (USGTF), Vern Burns (mini-tour player),
Charles Calhoun (Golf Channel’s Big Break), Earnie
Ellison (PGA Foundation), Jeff Donovant (National Black
Golf Hall of Fame), Bill Hopson (Disney Sports & Golf),
Burl Bowens (Golf Coach, Hampton University), LaJean Gould
(Women In Golf Foundation) and a host of others.
