“Urban Golf Survival”
As I travel throughout the USA, it appears from my
forty-one years of city and regional planning experience
that there is serious competition between the desires
of our “economically challenged golf enthusiast”
and developers for land who are constructing high

The developers are finding ways to build homes at
any cost, even though it is apparent by all reports
that the housing market is generally down across the
country. The acres of land in the urban communities
which were left undeveloped from the mid 70’s
and 80’s within the beltways are not being used
for our everyday enjoyment and certainly not for golf....

Dynamic
Explosion Of Black Women in the Golf Industry
Lean about the dynamic explosion of black
women who are leading the way in the golf industry
with their product and service related businesses.
Capture their spirit of success by reading their
profiles in the Spring 2004
issue.
The 2007
annual spring issue once again highlights
some amazing "Black Women In The Golf
Industry".
As an accomplished athlete, Debbie Adams' biggest
inspiration has been the Ms. Pro-Ama Golf Tour, a
mini-tour that she incorporated and developed for
girls nationwide.
Young girls from all over the U.S. joined the tour,
stayed at a reduced rate in Florida and practiced
their games. It was a lot of work that was very rewarding
for Debbie, and it allowed her to work on her own
game at the same time.
Other profiles of success include Robin Aikens,
Ramona M. Harriet, Selina
Johnson, Darlene Stowers, and LaRee
Sugg.

Cerebral Golf
With “Dr. J.”
According to mental game expert,
Dr. Michael Johnson, "Golf is a funny
game. One day you shoot your physical best
(for an amateur), and the next day it seems
nothing goes right. But, two days later you
shot a really good game and the cycle continues.
So how do we get more consistent with our
game? We build on the mental game of golf."

#10
Golfer: "I
think I'm going to drown myself in the
lake."
Caddy: "Think
you can keep your head down that long?"
#9
Golfer: "I'd
move heaven and earth to break 100 on
this course."
Caddy: "Try heaven,
you've already moved most of the
earth."
#8
Golfer: "Do
you think my game is improving?"
Caddy: "Yes
sir, you miss the ball much closer now."
#7
Golfer: "Do
you think I can get there with a 5 iron?"
Caddy: "Eventually."
#6
Golfer: "You've
got to be the worst caddy in the world."
Caddy: "I
don't think so sir. That would be too
much of a coincidence."
#5 Golfer:
"Please stop checking your watch all the
time. It's too much of a distraction."
Caddy: "It's
not a watch - it's a compass."
#4
Golfer: "How
do you like my game?"
Caddy: "Very
good sir, but personally, I prefer golf."
#3
Golfer: "Do
you think it's a sin to play on Sunday?
Caddy: "The
way you play, sir, it's a sin on any day."
#2
Golfer: "This
is the worst course I've ever played on."
Caddy: "This isn't the golf course. We
left that an hour ago."
And the #1 best caddy
comment:
Golfer: "That
can't be my ball, it's too old."
Caddy:
"It's been a long time since we teed off,
sir."
John Linton has traveled from Thailand
to Austin, Texas and he shares his enthusiasm
for golf with us.
While finishing a 20-year stint with the Air
Force he was constantly being hounded by his
roommate to take up golf. Then, after just one
swing in January of 1971, Johns tell us what
it was that so attracted him to have a 'love
affair' with the game.
Linton underwent instruction training for the
United States Golf Teachers Federation (USGTF)
and then align himself with the PGA's First
Tee program and to form a local chapter in Autsin,
Texas.
