Ginger Howard
Aspiring Professional Golfer

Ginger Howard
, first ever African American junior golfer to compete at Junior Ryder Cup.  Howard of Bradenton, Fla., represented the United States at the Junior Ryder Cup held at Gleneagles Resort in Scotland from Sept. 27-28.

To prepare for the different style of courses she’d see on the other side of the pond, Howard practiced on superfast artificial-turf greens to simulate the speed of putts she’d find at Gleneagles. She also practiced shots from thick lies around the green.

Her preparation really paid off, as Howard posted a stellar record of two wins and one loss over the two-day event. She teamed with fellow Bradenton native Doris Chen, the 2010 U.S. Girls Amateur Champion, to defeat the European duo of Manon Gidali (France) and Maon Molle (France) 2 and 1 during the first day’s Foursomes matches.

The 16-year-old aspiring professional golfer was introduced to the game of golf at the age of six by her father, Robert Howard and became a golf prodigy at the tender age of nine. Now, the 5 foot, 5 and 1/2 inch tall teen can drive the ball an average of 240-260 yards and has under her belt eight years of competing on the National Junior Golf Circuit.  During her brief career Howard has earned a lifetime total of over 75 top 3 finishes.  Howard often shares the spotlight with her talented sister, Robbi.  Both girls are home schooled and do exceptionally well in their studies.
