The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of aviation and aerospace careers, targeting young girls/boys and adults of all ages who desire to have a future in these areas. It is not all about pilots, but engineering, space adventure, building future airports, maintenance, air traffic control, management, airport operations, airline operations and many other aerospace fields.

Our vision of the event is as follows:

Day 1: Fly-in of Female Aviators and tours of the local area for various attendees. Guest speakers to engage young adults at select South Florida schools and Flight Schools.

Day 2: Golf Tournament and Luncheon to support the South Florida Chapter of OBAP’s Scholarship Fund.

Day 3: An all-day hangar and informational booth display for attendees and the community at-large.

Please help us to create the future aerospace professionals in our communities who will one day serve as employees, consumers, leaders. Let’s invest in South Florida’s greatest resource to ensure that South Florida remains atop the pinnacle of aviation!

The history of OBAP, Operation SAFEE Flight and our Community Involvement

The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) was founded in 1976 by airline pilots wishing to aide aspiring aviators in their pursuit of airline careers. Our mission was later broadened to include all aerospace professionals. Our mission is accomplished by engaging young children and high school students who are about to enter the world of aviation through school visits, community events, summer camps and scholarship awards. Our biggest projects, the Aviation Career Education (ACE) Camps take place in the summer, and are held throughout the contiguous United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Operation SAFEE Flight was founded with a mission to provide Aviation outreach for youth, businesses and the community. It is host to year-round community events in South Florida targeting youth and engaging them with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These Expositions and Camps provide unmatched opportunities to attract South Florida youth and foster an interest in S.T.E.M careers.

In these camps, children learn about aviation career paths, they engage in activities that build confidence and leadership, and they leave with life skills necessary and workforce readiness. Along with an Introductory flight, we provide mentorship and real scholarship opportunities. The South Florida Chapter of OBAP and SAFEE have logged hundreds of volunteer hours in these projects during the last year, making a difference in the lives of underprivileged and under-served young people.

Although we are a nationwide organization, the South Florida Chapter of OBAP has been active since 2014 in the local community; logging over 500 volunteer hours in projects throughout the S. Florida community and working with other organizations that share in our goal to reach underprivileged and under-served youths. Operation SAFEE Flight is active yearround with innovative projects. Since we began collaborating in local projects, we have done the following:

Summer 2014

-Florida Memorial University/SAFEE ACE Camp

-Operation SAFEE Flight summer camp visits and participation

-Charlton Camp for Aviation, Science and Technology Training ACE Camp preparations for South Florida

February 2015

-Florida Memorial University Black Pioneers in Aviation career symposium

-Florida Memorial University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University student night

April 2015

-SAFEE Air Expo at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport

-Touch-and-Go (TAG) competition operated and staffed in part OBAP members

Summer 2015

-Scheduled to attend summer camps and community events in which we will provide education and guidance on aerospace careers

-SAFEE hosted summer camps in the Cities of Doral, Miami Lakes, Sweetwater, and Opa- Locka

-SAFEE hosted the “Aviation Day With The Marlins” event during which the community gained exposure to S.T.E.M careers and organizations promoting education to young people.

With your support of the of the First Annual Women Of Flight Air-Ganza and Golf Tournament presented by the OBAP South Florida Chapter and Operation SAFEE Flight, we will continue to provide education, mentorship and support for young people and adults in the South Florida community towards aerospace careers for years to come!
