20-year-old Christyn Carr of North Carolina A&T University most recently won her first collegiate tournament at Savannah State University Invitational on October 28-29.   Although her school, North Carolina AT&T University, just became established in 2016, their force is to be reckoned with, as they are now9 in competitive standing.

A Sophmore at North Carolina AT&T University, Carr has roots in Detroit, Michigan, where she was born.  However, the skilled golfer was raised in Atlanta.   She was the 2017 Georgia 6A state champion upon graduating from Northview High School. Carr also won four Hurricane Junior Georgia Tournaments during her high school career. But her Freshman year didn’t pan out the way she and Head Coach Richard Watkins expected, and she was one of the lowest-ranked players in the conference. Carr competed in 10 tournaments with one being a match play event and totaled 1,553 strokes for an average score of 73.95. She decided to work on her game over the summer and she returned to the 2019-2020 season revitalized, ranked No.1 on her team and her playing shows why.

Christyn is an excellent student and is able to focus her achievements both on golf and academics.  Carr came in the North Carolina A&T with a 4.0 GPA and has maintained that throughout her entire collegiate career.  Aiming to increase her professional network, during the past summer she came in 2nd at the Georgia Women’s State Amateur Tournament.  Her win broke a record and earned her the highest finish for a Black woman in the tournament’s 80-year history and her feat earned her the title of Student-Athlete of the Week by Dallas Weekly. Fans are eager to watch her next competition scheduled for February 24-25, 202 at The Citadel Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina.
